Alma council awards $3.6769 million contract to build new library; June 2026 completion targeted

The Alma Common Council voted Aug. 21 to award a $3,676,900 construction contract for a new library to Market and Johnson after architects Kevin Kipperle and Kim Belmann of FEH reviewed the submitted bids via videoconference.
Council members approved the bid by roll call vote. The council set a tentative completion date of June 1, 2026 for the library project.
The council also approved a $12,000 payment to Kouba Drilling for a thermal conductivity test at the planned library site; the Finance committee noted the cost will be paid from the Library Grant. Architects Kipperle and Belmann presented the bid summary and background on the procurement process to the council.
In personnel action related to the library, the council appointed Laura Petterson as the new library director. The council recorded that former director Laura Toone resigned and will be moving out of state.
The approvals follow routine committee review; the council recorded no dissent in the roll call votes on the library contract and related funding actions. The council will monitor construction scheduling and grant funding as the project proceeds.
