Kenowa Hills board approves used lift bus purchase, petitions O.K. Conference withdrawal

Member LaBotz moved and Member Courtade supported a motion to purchase a used 2017 International lift bus from Midwest Transit Equipment for $64,771, to be paid from proceeds of the 2020 Series II Bond Sale. Board materials said Bus 29 faces an estimated $47,000 engine repair, has more than 119,000 miles, and that new replacement buses are often in the $150,000 range with lengthy lead times; the motion passed unanimously, 7-0.
Member Courtade moved and Member Turner supported approval of the consent agenda, which included the Sept. 25 regular meeting minutes and listed General Fund expenditures of $1,289,481.30 (through checks #81124–81375 and payrolls of Sept. 8 and 22), School Lunch Fund expenditures of $157,332.59, Capital Projects expenditures of $104,260.50, 2018 Building and Site Series expenditures of $991,945.16, 2020 Building and Site Series expenditures of $995,241.23, 2020 Series 2 Building Site Series expenditures of $333,225.00, and Activity Check Register expenditures of $47,095.08. The consent motion passed 7-0.
Member Roberts moved and Member LaBotz supported a motion to petition the O.K. Conference Executive Council to allow Kenowa Hills and six other districts to withdraw at the end of the 2023–24 spring athletic season and form a new conference, citing Article II Section 2C of the O.K. Conference Bylaws; the motion passed unanimously, 7-0. The board noted that an O.K. Conference Executive Council vote was anticipated the week of Oct. 23.
The board also heard a staff recommendation for a districtwide, cloud-based bus security camera system; staff said the board would be asked to take action on that purchase at the Oct. 23 regular meeting. No dissenting votes were recorded on the actions taken during the Oct. 9 meeting.
