Seniors present capstone on crosswalk safety; student reps recap senior events and communication suggestions

At the May 20 meeting of the Kenowa Hills Board of Education, two high school seniors presented a capstone project proposing improvements to crosswalk safety between the high school and the district athletic complex.
Kenowa Hills High School seniors Jackson Ratajczak and Rayan Belkhouda described safety concerns for pedestrians traveling between the school and athletic facilities and offered suggestions intended to reduce risk. The presentation was framed as a student capstone project and was part of the board’s agenda under Student Presentation.
Student Representatives Ronan Jameyson and Jake Jonker briefed the board on recent senior activities and academic awards. Ronan said he was pleased with how the last day for seniors was conducted, including a walkthrough of their elementary school. Jonker expressed gratitude for the student representative role, praised district responses to recent power outages and inclement weather, and recommended creating a chain-of-command for student Board representatives to follow when they bring topics to the board.
The board recessed for a brief reception at 6:40 p.m. and reconvened at 6:58 p.m. The meeting concluded with future meeting dates announced; no formal action was taken on the crosswalk-capstone during this session.
