Community member warns board that multiple Providence school building projects are off track

Melissa Hughes, a parent and member of the school building committee, told the Providence School Board that several capital projects are not on track and asked board members to hold the city's owner’s project manager and city leadership accountable.
Hughes said Fogarty and Kazarian pre‑K through 8 projects were scheduled to open this summer but remain off schedule; those communities have been in swing space for two years. She listed other projects in phase 3 — Mount Pleasant (renovation while students remain in the building), Messer West Broadway (identified as on time), Lima Stewart pre‑K–8 and Kennedy pre‑K–8 — and said several are significantly delayed. Hughes described the school building committee as an intergovernmental body that includes the school board and city council representation and asked the board to elevate concerns and press for accountability.
Her remarks, made during the public‑comment portion, followed several speakers pressing the board on staffing and budget questions. Hughes asked the board to ensure projects are ready for students and staff on schedule and thanked board member Jones for ongoing work on facilities.
