The Town of Merton Plan Commission voted May 6 to schedule two public hearings on June 17 for applications submitted by Amundsen Davis, LLC (c/o Chris J. Jaekels, Esq.) on behalf of Gideon Farms, LLC (c/o Jill C. Gehl). Planner Marilyn Haroldson explained the procedural steps for amending the Town of Merton Comprehensive Land Use Plan – 2035 and noted that notices must be published at least 30 days before the hearings.
The first hearing will consider amending part of the SW¼ and SE¼ of Section 27 (Tax Key MRTT0396-999-006) from the Governmental & Institutional category to Rural Density and Other Agricultural Land. The second hearing will consider amending Parcel 1, Certified Survey Map 7611 (Part of the SE¼ of Section 27; Tax Key MRTT0396-999-002) from Governmental & Institutional to Mixed Use to accommodate a proposed retail and recreational project. Commissioners agreed to hold both hearings the same night; Commissioner Queoff noted she could not attend that date.
Haroldson clarified that after the Town’s process the ordinance amendment is sent to Waukesha County and that county jurisdiction applies separately for parcels the county oversees. The hearings will allow public comment and are the formal step to consider comprehensive-plan map changes before any ordinance amendment is adopted.
