Council designates August as 'Cammie's Cause' month and clears event logistics for Aug. 29

Fortville — The Town Council voted to recognize August as "Cammie's Cause" month and discussed logistics for the festival planned for Aug. 29.

Organizer Jared Heiner described the festival as a one-time move to Landmark while construction is underway: "Cammie's Cause...is gonna host 33 bands on 5 stages over the course of 10 hours, noon to 10," Heiner said, asking for permission to install two large tents in adjacent parking lots and reserve spaces for food trucks. He described prior years' challenges with heat in the kid zone and said tents would improve safety and comfort.

Council members and business owners discussed parking alternatives, possible shuttles, coordination with CSX for train slow orders, and the need for a Vernon Township fire marshal inspection for tents and the stage. The Chair read a resolution memorializing the council’s support, noting the Heiner family’s work on behalf of families affected by Wolf–Hirschhorn syndrome. A councilmember moved for first reading of resolution 2026-7A recognizing August as Cammie's Cause month; the motion passed by voice vote.

Organizers confirmed they will coordinate with the fire marshal and leave alley access open to allow deliveries and business access. The council also discussed changing Main Street to "Cammy Street" each August as a community gesture.

The event organizer said the tents would be staked with patching to follow, setup would begin Friday with removal by Monday, and that they had discussed logistics with affected businesses; the council reminded organizers to secure required inspections before the event.
