Fortville — The Town Council interviewed four candidates for a vacancy on the town’s police commission and subsequently approved a nomination to fill the seat.
The council heard from applicants who described their backgrounds and answered questions about fairness, recruitment and potential conflicts of interest. Chris Sears said she has been part of the auxiliary department since 2017 and emphasized community involvement. Corey Munsell, a former Fortville officer and current canine handler with another agency, described background-investigator work to improve recruitment and retention. Thomas Robinson, a retired military member, cited administrative and youth-program experience, and Theresa Working framed her candidacy as a civilian perspective with experience raising children and community involvement.
Ed Brand, a police commission member, told the council the commission had reviewed resumes and made a unanimous recommendation to the council after deliberation: "We based our decision on the resume submitted," Brand said, asking the council to respect the commission's process. The council then voted to nominate Claire Monsal to the commission; the motion passed by voice vote and the council welcomed the appointee.
No roll-call vote tally was recorded in the transcript; the council treated the nomination as an approved appointment at the meeting. The appointment follows the police commission’s recommendation and will be reflected in future commission rosters.
