Council signs off on power plant cooling project change order and final payment

Council Member Lorie Topp moved approval of the change order; Council Member Brian Britt seconded. The motion carried with five aye votes (Lance Beethe, Brian Britt, Alicia Brommer, Tyler Speckmann and Lorie Topp) and one member absent. In a separate motion, the council approved the final pay application from Farabee Mechanical by the same vote tally.
During the utility report, Doug Goracke stated the cooling project is substantially complete. He said a statewide government shutdown earlier had slowed reimbursements to the city but the situation is improving. Goracke also reported unrelated operational updates: the old pool house has been demolished and the foundation is being backfilled, a distribution pole was replaced near 10th Clay, and there is a known issue with switchgear at Tecumseh Poultry that will require replacement. Staff are completing Grid grant paperwork and soliciting cost estimates for a building to house generator sets.
The council’s acceptance of the final pay application closes the recorded contract payment for the cooling project in the minutes; no additional retainage or contested claims are recorded.
