Tecumseh council approves $405,196.73 emergency engine repair, sidewalk contract and other routine measures

TECUMSEH, Neb. — The Tecumseh City Council on April 7 approved a series of routine and capital actions, including a $405,196.73 emergency repair for Engine #2 and a $20,330 contract to add sidewalks on Lincoln Street between Sixth and Ninth streets.
Councilmember Tyler Speckmann moved to approve the emergency repair estimate from Cypress Engine Accessories for Engine #2; Councilmember Brian Britt seconded the motion, which carried unanimously with Councilmember Travis Goracke recorded as absent. The estimate was listed at $405,196.73 in the council packet.
Also on a unanimous vote with one absence, the council accepted the low bid from S&D Concrete Construction LLC for $20,330 to install sidewalks on Lincoln Street from 6th to 9th streets. The motion was made by Councilmember Lance Beethe and seconded by Councilmember Lorie Topp.
The council approved multiple other routine items: on a motion by Councilmember Tyler Speckmann, seconded by Councilmember Brian Britt, it set the summer mowing wage for Kaden Badertscher at $17.00 per hour. Councilmember Lance Beethe moved, and Councilmember Alicia Brommer seconded, approval of a street closure request from JCC Schools to close Lincoln Street between 6th and 9th streets for home track meets; that motion passed as well.
Parks-related work at Custer Ide Field also received council approval. Councilmember Alicia Brommer moved to accept a $6,475 quote from Kudu Lawn & Landscape for field improvements; Councilmember Lorie Topp seconded and the motion carried.
During departmental reports, staff member Doug Goracke updated the council on street work including dirt moving for Arrowhead Street and noted bids for the Lincoln Street sidewalk. Utility updates included a pending Grid Grant award, ongoing generator repairs and a final meeting on a water quality study. Parks staff Maddie Moran said pool interviews will be April 18 and the pool cleaning is scheduled for April 27 with filling to follow. The City Clerk reminded residents that city-wide clean-up is scheduled for the weekend of May 2–3.
The council approved the consent agenda, including the March 17, 2025 meeting minutes and payment of bills, on a motion by Councilmember Lorie Topp, seconded by Councilmember Lance Beethe. The meeting adjourned at 5:42 p.m.
