Kenowa Hills board reviews policy revisions, Pathways spotlight and a cooperative education partnership

At its Nov. 24 meeting the board reviewed a first-reading slate of policy revisions, lauded Pathways teachers and student supports, and discussed continuing a five-year Cooperative Education Agreement with Berrien Springs Public Schools; the consent agenda also included the Cooperative Education Agreement and the Annual Summer Tax Resolution.
The Kenowa Hills Public Schools Board of Education used part of its Nov. 24 meeting to review a first-reading package of policy revisions and to highlight program-level work in the district.
Director Long presented a list of first-reading policy changes and rescissions covering nondiscrimination and anti-harassment (Policies 1422/3122/4122 and related sections), Section 504/ADA technical corrections, curriculum (Policy 2210), bullying (Policy 5517.01), digital content and accessibility (Policy 7540.02), information security (Policy 8305), and other technical corrections. These are first readings; no formal policy adoptions were recorded at this meeting.
In recognition, Dr. Horner praised Pathways teachers for steady support and success stories that emphasize planning for graduation and postsecondary paths. Principal Capy-Cantu described Pathways staff approaches to differentiating instruction and preparing students for workforce entry, higher education, or military service; student representatives Chay'ce Smith and Aaron Coleman highlighted staff support and employer visits.
The board also discussed a long-standing Cooperative Education Agreement with Berrien Springs Public Schools to provide a Link Learning location within the district and considered continuing the partnership for another five years. The Cooperative Education Agreement appeared on the consent agenda and was approved as part of the consent motion.
Superintendent Hopkins said an ad hoc committee will be convened to examine equitable access to the Knight Strength high school class; District Title IX Coordinators will facilitate and return a recommendation to the board.
The items discussed were informational or on first reading; formal policy changes will return for subsequent readings and formal action.
