Director of Finance Long told the Kenowa Hills Public Schools Board of Education Committee of the Whole on Sept. 8 that Lansing had made no measurable progress toward adopting the FY2026 state budget. Long said a state government shutdown would not immediately disrupt the district’s operations but noted other districts are beginning contingency planning, including arranging short-term loans. He reported Kenowa Hills has sufficient cash flow to sustain a short shutdown.
Long also presented the August 2025 check register to the board. The minutes list line-item fund expenditures, including General Fund expenditures of $1,485,027.25 (checks #85621–85711), School Lunch Fund expenditures of $39,507.97 (checks #11302–11305), 2022 Building and Site Series expenditures of $26,654 (checks #118–121), 2024 Athletic Bond Series expenditures of $66,709 (checks #56–57) and Student Activity expenditures of $12,100.02 (checks #97480–97486). The minutes also list a monthly total of $1,056,668.18; these figures do not reconcile within the published minutes and were recorded as provided in the check register section.
Separately, Director of Technology Webb presented a recommendation to replace network electronics and uninterruptible power supplies. Webb said the district expects to pay most of the cost with federal e-rate funds and to use bond funds for the remaining balance. The minutes note this item will be brought as an action item at the upcoming Regular Meeting for formal approval.
The board did not take formal action on the network purchase or on contingency steps for the state budget during the workshop; both items were presented for information and will return for action as required.
