Hillsborough reports paving, curbing and drainage work nearing completion on Park & Whittemore project

Commissioner Dave Lewis updated the Hillsborough Water & Sewer Commission Nov. 13 on progress at the Park & Whittemore Street project, reporting that Continental Paving completed final crushed‑gravel grading and that paving was expected the following day. The mason is scheduled to raise catch basin grates Monday and Tri‑State will install vertical granite curbing Tuesday; driveway work is expected the week of Nov. 24.
Commissioners instructed Water and Sewer Administrator Penny Griffin to obtain basement surveys completed by Underwood Engineers for homes within the project to create a list of residences with sump pumps or drains connected to private sewer services. Those connections must be redirected away from the public sanitary sewer in accordance with Town Code § 181‑6 I, which prohibits connecting roof downspouts, foundation drains, areaway drains or other surface/runoff sources to building sewers tied to public sanitary sewers.
Commissioner Lewis said Park Construction agreed to repair damage to the paved driveway at 25 Whittemore Street and will install asphalt fillets at driveways for winter access; the fillets will be milled prior to final paving in spring. Selectman Jim Bailey decided to remove the old sidewalk on the south side of Whittemore Street and have the area loamed and seeded, with properties that have paved walkways extended to the new granite curbing. The Commission also noted that two "No Parking" signs will be installed at the top of Whittemore Street to deter parking that could hinder emergency vehicle turning.
