Dr. Paula Dylan told the board the goal sets measurable targets and an implementation schedule: complete a district training and implementation timeline by June 2026, train 60% of middle and high school social‑studies and civics teachers by June 2027, and reach an initial target of 30% of graduating students demonstrating proficiency by June 2030. "The goal as written is the percentage of students who graduate demonstrating proficiency… we'll capture our baseline in May 2029," Dylan said.
Board members asked about integration with arts and other disciplines and whether the goal defines where measurement occurs versus the strategies to achieve it. Dr. Dylan said cross‑disciplinary strategies and partners will be part of later action steps and that the board should expect subsequent proposals tied to budget discussions.
After discussion the board voted to approve the timeline and associated measures. President Tyrell Stevens called for the motion; the item passed by voice vote.
