The Orangeville City Council on June 11 adopted the city's 2026–27 budgets and approved a package of financial actions, including a transfer from the Utility Fund to the General Fund to balance a deficit and an amended 2025–26 budget.
Kevin Butler moved to approve RESOLUTION 2026-7 adopting the 2026–27 General Fund, Utility Fund, Municipal Building Authority, capital project and perpetual care budgets; David McKee seconded and the motion passed on a 5-0 roll-call. The council earlier approved RESOLUTION 2026-5 to transfer funds from the Utility Fund to the General Fund (motion by Kevin Butler, seconded by Kirk McQuivey) and RESOLUTION 2026-6 to amend the 2025–26 budgets (motion by Kari Alton, seconded by David McKee).
Council also approved RESOLUTION 2026-8 to set the 2025–26 certified tax rate at 0.000866 (motion by Kirk McQuivey, seconded by Kevin Butler). Each of these measures was recorded as passing with five affirmative votes (David McKee, Kari Alton, Doug Stilson, Kirk McQuivey, Kevin Butler).
The council discussed the actions at previous budget hearings before voting; the minutes note that the fee schedule amendment (RESOLUTION 2026-9) was tabled because it had not been posted publicly and will be brought back on the July agenda. Mayor Shaun Bell and council members said the fee changes were intended to help offset part of the deficit.
