Allison Swisher, introduced by staff as director of public utilities, presented the winners of the Grand Prairie Water Commission conservation challenge and outlined summer outreach tied to Joliet’s recent switch to Lake Michigan water.
"So we're really excited tonight to further recognize our water conservation winners," Swisher said, announcing Laurie Ludden as Joliet's adult winner and naming Celeste Bissett and a child winner, Felicity, for seasonal contests. She described an ongoing adult survey incentive and a kids' baseball-card contest running through Sept. 30 and said full details are on the Rethink Water Joliet website.
Swisher also urged residents to attend a water-conservation themed night at the Joliet Slammers, where staff will distribute information and activities beginning at 5:30 p.m. ahead of the 6:35 p.m. game. She said the city partners with Will County Green on the event and similar outreach.
In closing, Swisher noted Joliet was among 36 Illinois communities with a Gold-level Water Ambassador award from the Illinois American Water Works Association and said the designation recognizes local work to elevate public awareness and education about water-service issues.
The presentation was informational; no council action on utility programs was taken at the pre-council meeting. Council members invited residents to participate in the incentives and community events described by staff.
