At its July 9 meeting, the Town of Washington Select Board approved a building permit and recorded routine department updates and financial authorizations.
The board recorded approval of a building permit for Susan Waddell on property held by the Edward Yaglou Family Trust (Tax Map #2-4) for a 40-by-64-foot sugar house; the minutes state the permit was approved but do not record a vote tally or mover/second. In departmental updates, Ed Thayer, Public Works, briefed the board on weekly highway activity, noted a resident concern about water runoff on Valley Road, reviewed the Bridge Fund reconciliation, discussed bonds on Ayers Pond Road and Old Marlow Road, and said the crew will need to finish chip seal on Faxon Hill Road. Thayer also raised the possibility of selling the town’s Mack truck. The Select Board decided not to accept solar panels at the Transfer Station.
Mark Dressel, Chief, provided a police activity update and reported some vandalism in town. Shawn Atkins, Fire Chief, submitted the Fire and Rescue Department monthly calendar and activity report (four rescue calls and two fire calls between June 24 and July 9) and raised questions about driveway permit standards and the building for the General Store.
In expenditures, the Select Board authorized payroll checks totaling $13,373.92 and vendor checks totaling $374,736.95 dated July 10, 2026; the minutes record the authorization but do not list a vote tally or mover/second for this entry.
