Alma council approves routine licenses and hires utility worker; building inspector discussion tabled

During its June 12 meeting the Alma Common Council completed a number of routine business items including license approvals, committee minutes, and a personnel hire.
By motion of Gary Jepsen, seconded by David Earney, the council approved Class A licenses (including Kwik Trip 802 and Riverside Bait and Liquor). Jepsen also moved to approve a slate of Class B beer and liquor licenses (seconded by Earney) for establishments including the American Legion Post #224, Alfresco Pizzeria, Dam View Bar, Burlington Hotel Bar Shop LLC, River Road Tavern LLC, Empire Room and others. The council approved a Class B fermented malt license and a Class C wine license for Pier 4 Market, LLC (agent: Elizabeth Walker) and, by motion of Jepsen seconded by Perry Iberg, approved a long list of operator licenses across multiple businesses; votes were unanimous on those items.
The council approved several committee minutes and reports (Finance/Tax & License/Zoning; Utilities; Parks & Recreation; Services; Tourism). A motion by Loren Mueller, seconded by Davie Meier, tabled further discussion of the building inspector issue and sent it back to the Finance Committee for review.
On personnel, the council approved hiring a full-time city utility & street employee at $24.00 per hour, pending a background check and drug screening (motion by Perry Iberg, seconded by David Earney). The Riverland Energy Building Committee item was approved as presented.
The minutes also note that Deputy Clerk Sharaya Reed took roll call at the opening and that the council introduced new City of Alma police officer Emily Rybarczyk, who spoke briefly about her transition from the county.
