County staff flags ComEd letter on proposed 765 kV transmission line; response requested by Aug. 1

Administrator Becky alerted the committee to a recent letter from ComEd stating the utility hired Burns, MCD to perform a study for a proposed roughly 190‑mile, 765 kilovolt transmission line from northern Illinois toward Grundy County that could pass through Boone County. Becky said the company asked for county information on land use, water quality, soils, wildlife and socioeconomics and requested a response by Aug. 1.
Becky said she has tried to obtain more information and an electronic file from the project contact and had copied Boone County officials on follow-up emails. "We just got this letter last week, and they're asking for a response by August 1," she told the committee, and said staff intends to coordinate a county response with planning, conservation and other agencies.
Board members noted the potential scale and local consequences. Becky and staff said they would continue to gather details and keep the board updated; the committee did not take a formal vote on the matter at the meeting.
