Boone County to consider three advisory energy questions for November ballot; board to vote next week

Tom Wahlberg, attending remotely, summarized three proposed advisory questions that arrived at the county's request from Senator Dave Severson and said the county can place up to three advisory questions on the November ballot. "By voting on this, that it means we'll, we'll get anywhere, but it's just to kind of position us in the in the light that, kind of tells our legislators of where Boone County is on these issues," Wahlberg said.
Board members discussed the questions briefly. Dave Wiltsie, a board member, said he would vote to put the items on the ballot and noted the matters are for voters to decide, particularly regarding school funding implications when local control is at stake. Chair Bradley Riley and others agreed to move the questions forward to the county board next week for formal approval; no county-level vote to place the questions on the ballot occurred during the committee meeting.
The advisory questions are intended as nonbinding guidance to state legislators rather than binding county policy; staff said the deadline to act for the November ballot timing requires county board attention in the coming weeks. The committee did not finalize ballot language or vote to place the items on the ballot at this meeting.
