The Little Compton Town Council approved a series of personnel and routine items at its meeting.
Appointments and promotions: The council approved Rebecca Miranda as deputy tax assessor after legal clarification that the council may create the position under state law even if a related charter amendment fails. The council also approved Chief (S10)'s recommendation to promote Palmer Lowe to sergeant effective July 11, 2026; Chief (S10) said Lowe had been serving in supervisory roles and as accreditation manager and was ‘‘more than capable’’ of the post.
Finance contract: The council approved a one-year contract for interim finance director John Macbeth through June 30, 2027. Council discussion included a question about the contract language and arithmetic: one member noted that a listed $9,000 figure and a 20-hour week can be confusing when annualized; supporters said Macbeth worked well for the town. The vote carried by voice with one member stating an abstention.
Permits and communications: The council approved a one-day Class F beverage license for the Little Compton Village Approval Society for a family fun day on Aug. 1, 2026, and approved temporary signage for a historic cemetery renovation project, subject to the town's 12-square-foot limit.
Charter amendments: The council thanked the charter review committee, scheduled a public hearing for July 23 to review an iteration of proposed amendments (36 items) and discussed the need to finalize ballot-language summaries for the secretary of state by Aug. 5.
No roll-call vote tallies were recorded in the meeting minutes for these items; the meeting used voice votes for the actions above.
