Panama City clears Joe Moody Harris Park phase 1; Truesdale Park work and summer programs detailed

Jonathan Hayes said the city has received approvals to start phase 1 of the Joe Moody Harris Park improvement project, with construction expected to begin in August and primary funding provided by a DEP grant. He described planned amenities for phase 1 including a new playground, a basketball court, pavilions, outdoor fitness equipment, walking trails, lighting and parking-lot improvements.
Hayes said the parking lot at Truesdale Park will be completed soon and that exterior improvements are out to bid, with the bid closing July 8; interior renovations will be performed using a combination of city staff, city-purchased materials and community donations, and Hayes invited residents to make donations via the city payment portal at panamacity.gov.
In the same update, Hayes reminded drivers that automated school-zone speed enforcement will begin full enforcement when students return for the 2026–2027 school year and urged motorists to watch for flashing school-zone signals. He also noted a summer utility-billing promotion: residents who enroll in autopay and paperless billing by July 31 will be entered to win one of five $100 Visa gift cards and that no purchase is necessary; listeners were directed to the city website for rules and details.
Hayes closed by saying city officials remain focused on maintaining momentum and continuing to deliver improvements that enhance quality of life in the community.
