Votes at a glance: Mills River council approves consent agenda, three tax resolutions and updated Powell Bill map

At its meeting, the Mills River Town Council approved routine business and several resolutions with no recorded opposition.

Opening business included a motion to move item F into the consent agenda and to approve the amended agenda; Councilmember (S7) moved the change and Councilmember (S8) seconded. The council then approved the consent agenda.

Tax collector Preston Rental presented the annual tax settlement statement and reported the town's real and personal property collections totaled $3,863,809.49 with a collection rate of 99.68%. Councilmember (S7) moved to adopt resolution 2026‑16 approving the tax collector settlement statement; the motion carried.

Rental also requested authorization of his required bond. Council adopted resolution 2026‑17, setting the tax collector bond at $600,000, on a motion from Councilmember (S2) and a second from Councilmember (S7). Council then adopted resolution 2026‑18 charging the tax collector to collect taxes for the 2026‑27 fiscal year on a motion from Councilmember (S8).

Finally, Michael Malicek, the town planning director, presented a signed and sealed update to the Powell Bill map required every five years; Councilmember (S7) moved to adopt the updated 2026 Powell Bill map and Councilmember (S8) seconded. The council adopted the map, which annotates newly constructed private streets in addition to the town's municipal center drive.

All listed votes were recorded in the meeting as passing without opposition. The council adjourned after closing business.
