Warrensburg — During public comment at Monday’s City Council meeting, two residents urged local officials to ensure that polling places remain safe and accessible amid national reports of federal enforcement activity.
Manda Reynolds, who identified herself as a 35‑year resident, parent and educator, said she was concerned by national trends of deportations, racial profiling and constraints on voting access. “Everyone that is a U.S. citizen should be allowed to vote,” Reynolds said, and she urged city and law enforcement officials to do everything possible to preserve safe access to the ballot.
Sarah Smith, who gave a Warrensburg address, said recent federal enforcement actions and conflicting public statements about possible agency presence near polling locations have raised local concerns. Smith cited national reporting and urged officials to establish clear lines of communication and plans to protect voters and reassure communities ahead of the midterms.
A law‑enforcement official told council that ICE has made contact indicating work in the area and that the department maintains working relationships with federal agencies; the official encouraged anyone who feels harassed or intimidated by federal presence near polling locations to file a report with the local agency so staff can follow up with the federal partner.
The council thanked the speakers and discussed coordinating communication between local law enforcement and county or federal partners; no formal council action was taken.
