Margaret says vape-shop limits, e-mobility rules and zoning workshops are coming

She said the board will have opportunities to provide feedback at upcoming workshops and citizen comment sessions.
Board members pressed for clarity on whether the proposed rules would target other kinds of businesses. Margaret said the commission already uses controls for certain business types (she cited dispensaries and other regulated venues) but expects the commission as a whole to focus the current effort on vape shops and to reserve broader policy changes for the 2027 zoning update. "Because we're gonna be doing this comprehensive zoning overhaul in 2027, I think just focusing on the vape shop is probably as far as the entire commission would go," she said.
The conversation highlighted two practical limits for the board: first, local authority can be preempted by state law for vehicles and certain business regulations; second, members said any expansion beyond vape-shop rules will likely wait for the comprehensive plan update. The board discussed outreach strategies for the workshops and asked staff to circulate meeting notices so the civic engagement board and the public can participate in the zoning conversations.
Next steps: the commission is expected to host workshops and citizen comment opportunities related to the zoning proposal; the board discussed the DEI subcommittee helping to reach a diverse cross-section of residents and to formulate feedback for the commission.
