Board to present 2023 union wage-study letter of agreement to union members

The Mackinac County Board of Commissioners reviewed a Letter of Agreement on May 28 to send to union members asking them to review a 2023 wage study that the board did not implement at the time.
Commissioner Austin Kimberling told the board the prior reclassification process had been “misused,” and that the board’s analysis found roughly 60% of union employees were underpaid relative to recommended scales while about 40% were overpaid. Commissioner Kimberling moved and Commissioner Daryl Schroeder seconded a motion to present the LOA to union members for their review; the motion passed unanimously.
The board did not adopt pay-scale adjustments at this meeting; the action directs that the union review the wage study and vote on implementing recommended adjustments. The board’s materials indicate the LOA is the step required to seek union input before any implementation.
