The Atlantic Beach Town Council on Feb. 26 approved two additional items: an ordinance updating rules on weapons on town property and a resolution declaring a 2003 E-One 75' aerial ladder truck surplus and authorizing its sale.
Town Attorney Derek Taylor told council he reviewed the proposed amendment to Chapter 12, Section 12-9 (weapons on town property) and found it compliant with North Carolina General Statutes (NCGS). Councilmember Harry Archer moved to adopt Ordinance 24-02-02; the motion passed unanimously, 4-0.
On the surplus-vehicle sale, Fire Chief Mike Simpson reported the town received an offer of $60,000 for the 2003 E-One aerial ladder truck and recommended selling directly to that buyer rather than auctioning the asset on Govdeals. Chief Simpson said comparable market information he had observed suggested $30,000 as a likely top dollar on some sales, and that other sales indicated $50,000 as a reasonable maximum. Mayor Pro Tem Austin Waters asked how the $60,000 offer was determined to be good; the council approved Resolution 24-02-01 to declare the truck surplus and authorize the sale (motion by Austin Waters; second by Joseph Starling; vote recorded 4-0).
The council did not record further buyer-identifying information or post-sale conditions during the meeting; the resolution authorizes the sale but the transcript does not include implementation details such as sale closing date or buyer name.
