Thomasville ABC Board approves minutes, reviews March sales decline and considers new investment option

The Thomasville ABC Board met on April 15, 2025, at the store at 1144 Randolph Street and approved the minutes of the March 25, 2025 meeting and payrolls for the weeks ending March 29 and April 12, 2025.
Chairman Cran Plyler moved to approve the March 25 minutes; Board Member Don Clinard seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. The minutes record that payrolls were reviewed and approved, but do not list a mover or seconder for that approval.
Terri Fisher of Fairgrove Resource Center presented the nonprofit's quarterly report on distribution of drug- and alcohol-prevention materials funded by the store, referenced in the minutes as Attachment A. An abbreviated law enforcement report was reported because Officer Tilly was absent for medical reasons (Attachment B).
The board reviewed financial results for March. Sales were reported down 9.35% year over year, compared with a statewide decline of 6.21%. The minutes list weekly average sales during the period as $107,825 and daily average sales as $18,102. The comparative balance sheet showed higher inventory than the prior year, and the income statement showed net profit gains for both the month and year to date; the minutes state there are no required budget amendments (Attachment D).
Store General Manager Leigh Ann Lowe said she will meet with a representative of the NC Capital Management Trust to evaluate investing store funds as an alternative to the current Fidelity Bank money market account; the minutes note several other boards are investing with the trust. Lowe also said the North Carolina League of Municipalities will no longer offer wage benefits beginning with the new fiscal year in July; she is evaluating alternatives for staff benefits.
Lowe stated she is offering a part-time position to an individual who previously worked at a Triad-area store; if filled, the staff mix would be six full-time and four part-time employees. The minutes do not record a formal board vote regarding that hire.
The board set its next meeting for Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. The minutes are signed by Cran Plyler, chairman, and Neal Grimes, secretary/treasurer.
