Resident asks town to dredge Davis Pond; Select Board offers equipment help but no town-funded dredging

Jackson, N.H. — Resident Rick Davis told the Select Board on June 24 that Davis Pond, which he said he constructed about 20 years ago, is beginning to fill in and asked the town to provide money or dredging assistance.
Chair Barbara Campbell said the town is not able to fund dredging at this time but can help with moving debris and providing equipment. Frank DiFruscio asked Fire Chief Jay Henry to comment on the pond’s operational importance. Henry said that during winter months, when Black Mountain performs snowmaking, Davis Pond becomes valuable to the fire department. The department committed to testing the hydrant connected to the pond and to reporting findings to the Select Board.
The board indicated that any future financial assistance for dredging would need to be added to a future budget cycle and that a town-wide review of fire ponds may be warranted if funding is to be considered.
