Chincoteague EMS reports faster response times in 2024 and rolls out drug-kit tracking system

Brian delivered the EMS annual report, saying the department answered 1,103 calls in 2024, an increase of 51 calls from 2023, and highlighted strong operational metrics: an average out-the-door time of 1.78 minutes and average on-scene time of 4.43 minutes. He said increased staffing — three personnel 24/7 plus a fourth for daytime coverage — reduced mutual-aid requests to 11 in 2024 from 38 in 2023.
Brian described the department’s new drug-kit tracking program, which completed staff training in December and went live at 2 p.m. on the Monday before the meeting; the system records lot numbers and inventory for DEA tracking and local accountability. He thanked medical and program partners who assisted with implementation.
On emergency management, Brian said the department secured a $15,000 Local Emergency Management Planning Grant with a $7,500 local match; staff plan to use the award for code-red call-out capacity, satellite phones and related training. He also flagged the state-required full revision of the emergency operations plan and a hazard mitigation plan rewrite scheduled for 2025.
