The Village of Salem Lakes Economic Development Committee voted to forward a proposal from Moss Medical Corporation to the Village Board after a presentation and Q&A with company representatives.
Jamie Sikalsky, identified as general sales manager at Moss Medical Corporation, told the committee the Swiss-origin firm is looking to expand from Bristol into Salem Lakes to obtain more warehouse and manufacturing space. "We're looking at expanding our company from Bristol into the Salem Lakes area," Sikalsky said, adding that the company conducts mirrored manufacturing with Switzerland and emphasizes internships and local hiring.
Committee members and staff asked about operations and site specifics. Sikalsky said the company currently operates a single shift at its U.S. site and employs about 140 people across branches; two of three machinists began as interns. The proposed parcel was described as located near the fire department. Members raised traffic and safety concerns tied to a potential on-site car-wash/test facility; Sikalsky said the planned wash would be a "high-end" operation and indicated design and parking could be arranged to avoid conflicts.
Staff and members also discussed utilities and stormwater: Sikalsky said fire flows and sanitary sewer appear available for the site, and the company's conceptual plan would use existing on-site retention, but members noted water availability along Route 83 is limited and that water and sewer capacity could constrain further commercial expansion.
After discussion a committee member moved to recommend Moss Medical Corporation's proposal to the Village Board for forward momentum; the motion was seconded by the Chair and approved by voice vote. The committee did not adopt site-level approvals; members asked the company to work with staff and the planning commission on zoning, engineering and traffic details before any formal approvals.
The EDC flagged next steps: confirm utility capacity, finalize architecture/engineering plans, and coordinate any required planning commission review before the Village Board acts. The committee said it would forward its recommendation and supporting notes to the Village Board for further consideration.
The EDC meeting record shows the company left the meeting after the vote; the committee indicated it welcomes the proposal pending the technical and regulatory reviews required before any final development approvals.
