Clark Brewer, Scituate’s new building commissioner and zoning enforcement officer, formally introduced himself to the Central Planning Board at the July 9 meeting and urged increased coordination among town boards to improve permitting consistency and public safety oversight.
“My name is Clark Brewer. I’m the new building commissioner and zoning enforcement officer,” Brewer said, noting prior planning and master-plan work in Cohasset and experience with traffic and permitting studies. He told the board that the Route 3A corridor has safety problems and cited an accident rate higher than the state average.
Brewer suggested steps to improve outcomes, including regular meetings among board chairs to share project information, conducting zoning clinics to help property owners understand requirements, and improving communication with MassDOT where highway conditions create hazards. Board members agreed communication had been siloed and welcomed improved coordination.
The board did not take formal action on Brewer’s suggestions at the meeting; he said his office would be available to consult with planning and other boards on significant projects.
