Pine Valley Community Village administrators reported the results of their annual Medicare and Medicaid survey at the July 2 Richland County Community Health Services Standing Committee meeting, saying they received two small citations that have been addressed or are set for repair.
"We got 2 citations. 2 small citations," the Pine Valley administrator said, describing work already completed on outlets and sprinkler head issues and noting photos and corrective steps. The administrator said a generator fuel test and the required four‑hour load test were completed and that a roof replacement was scheduled for the week of July 20.
The administrator described a medication administration incident in which an LPN signed a medication as given without removing it from a locked box. Staff intervened quickly, obtained an additional dose, notified the physician and family, drew labs and conducted an audit and re‑education for the nurse involved. "They were able to catch it pretty quickly," the administrator said, and the state surveyor accepted the corrective actions.
Administrator also reported negotiating a reduction in a prior state citation amount from roughly $114,000 to about $79,000 and said the facility is following state guidance on waivers and staffing. Pine Valley described staffing practices that favor vetted contracted staff for coverage and an internal pipeline that trains CNAs and med‑techs. The facility noted resident life and activities continue (recent fishing trips; an animal visit scheduled later in the month).
Committee members requested clearer financial reporting showing Pine Valley's net position after payroll and revenues; administrators said payroll is processed by the county and not included on the expenditure page and agreed to provide more complete year‑to‑date reconciliations at a future meeting.
The committee took no regulatory action at the meeting; administrators said they will continue to implement corrective actions and provide follow‑up financial information to the committee.
