Urbanna — The town council authorized emergency repairs to the town well pump house on Monday, approving a bid to replace corroded piping and supports after staff described a recent pipe failure.
Staff presented photographs showing a failed sleeve, leaking couplings and rusted pipe supports in the well-pump room; staff said the failure occurred while water-quality testing was underway and that temporary repairs were not sufficient. The town obtained two bids; staff and the finance committee recommended the low bid from Sender for $27,890.
A council member moved and the council approved a motion authorizing the town administrator to accept Sender's quote and proceed with repiping work. Staff noted there is approximately $30,000 in the repairs and maintenance budget that could cover the work.
Why it matters: The repiping addresses an active leak risk and deteriorated supports in a critical asset for the town's water-delivery system; staff described the existing supports as rusted out and the current makeshift support as a 4x4 and a 2x4.
What happens next: Sender will perform the replacement work under the accepted quote. Staff will report back to council on completion and any warranty or longer-term replacement needs identified by the contractor.
