Madeira Beach resident says promised road repairs not done; city staff cites contractor schedule and promises follow-up

At the July 8 Board of Commissioners meeting, resident John Scott told the commission that road and drainage work on streets including West Parsley and East Parsley has not been completed despite prior assurances and that brief rains already produce standing water at problem locations.
"Nothing's been done," Scott said, describing repeated, unaddressed flooding after a 20-minute rain and showing enlarged photos to the commission. He said the city had previously given residents six months to rebuild or demolish damaged homes but that two years had passed with little progress and that he is preparing to retain an attorney if repairs are not made.
City staff responded that the holdup was related to paving scheduling by the prime contractor and the subcontractor; staff said the last schedule target of July 9 was moved to August 1 because of contractor availability. City manager said staff would follow up directly with the resident and review options to mitigate flooding while waiting for paving, and a commissioner urged that the city consider deploying additional erosion-control measures or subcontractors if the current contractor fails to perform.
The commission did not set a new deadline during the meeting but directed the city manager to make direct contact and report back; staff emphasized that erosion-control measures are in place to avoid debris entering the bay and that a final paving schedule depends on contractors' equipment availability.
