Labette County approves $696,000 purchase of two Cat motor graders

Labette County commissioners voted Thursday to buy two Cat 150-15J motor graders from Foley Equipment of Chanute for $696,000.
Public Works Director Sandy Krider presented two competitive bids during the meeting: Foley Equipment offered two 2024 Cat 150-15J graders for $696,000, and Murphy Tractor of Humboldt offered two 2025 JD770G graders for $711,600. Krider told the board she will seek financing bids and that the two graders being replaced will be declared surplus and sold on the Purple Wave online auction platform after delivery of the new machines.
Commissioner Terry Weidert moved to authorize the purchase; Vincent B. Schibi seconded the motion and the board approved it unanimously (Tom Barrett Yes; Terry Weidert Yes; Vincent B. Schibi Yes).
The approved purchase was presented to county commissioners as part of the public works department’s equipment-update plan and is intended to refresh aging fleet assets. Financing details were not finalized at the meeting; Ms. Krider said she would obtain bids and report back to the board.
The next procedural step is delivery of the machines and formal declaration of the old graders as surplus before they are listed for sale on Purple Wave.
