Labette County commissioners approve routine minutes, contracts and licenses; executive sessions held

The commissioners approved a Postalocity quote to mail required RNR notices for 2025 at a cost of $14,298.62, payable from the General Fund – 911 Dispatch – Maintenance account. Barrett moved the motion and Weidert seconded; the motion passed (Schibi absent).
The board authorized the chairman’s signature on a cereal malt beverage license renewal for Anthony D. Housley doing business as Good Luck Bait Shop, 1807 24000 Road, Parsons. Barrett moved the motion and Weidert seconded; the motion passed (Schibi absent).
The board authorized a service agreement with Motorola Solutions for maintenance of 800‑megahertz equipment covering hardware, software, cybersecurity, parts and labor for the period June 1, 2025, through May 31, 2026, for $67,122.43. Commissioner Terry Weidert moved to authorize the vice‑chairman’s signature; Tom Barrett seconded and the motion passed (Schibi absent). The agreement does not cover the physical tower, which is owned by Wave Wireless, according to the presentation.
Commissioners also agreed to allow City of Edna public works employees to perform mowing and chip‑and‑seal work using county equipment, on the condition that the city hires the county employees for the work outside normal hours and pays for fuel, equipment maintenance and workers’ compensation. Tom Barrett moved to allow the work; Terry Weidert seconded and the motion passed (Schibi absent).
The board twice recessed into executive session for consultation with the county attorney on matters protected by attorney–client privilege; County Counselor Brian K. Johnson and County Clerk Gena Landis attended the sessions. The first executive session lasted ten minutes; the second lasted five minutes.
With no further business, the meeting reconvened at 12:07 p.m. and adjourned until the next regular session on June 17, 2025.
