Labette County approves $38,975 in courthouse repairs and signs off on payroll, bills

The Labette County Board of Commissioners approved three proposals from Mid-Continental Restoration Company, Inc. for repairs to the courthouse entries and voted to pay the total $38,975 from the Courthouse maintenance line item (001-010-2080).
Chairman Vincent B. Schibi reported the proposals after Maintenance Supervisor Chris Lahey presented them; Commissioner Terry Weidert moved to accept all three proposals and Commissioner Tom Barrett seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The board also approved payroll and bills. Chairman Schibi moved to approve payroll check numbers 1814–1815 for $4,650.83 and Direct Deposit numbers 826620–826749 for $368,927.41, a combined payroll total of $373,578.24; Commissioner Tom Barrett seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The board then approved Accounts Payable checks 37550–37588 totaling $468,859.96 after a motion from Chairman Schibi and a second by Commissioner Terry Weidert.
During the meeting Chairman Schibi updated the board on repairs at the Judicial Center following a recent water leak, saying he had contacted the county’s insurance carrier and requested a bid to replace damaged carpet. Maintenance Supervisor Chris Lahey told commissioners that ceiling tile replacement work is underway, the new Judicial Center roof is performing well, and recently sealed courthouse windows are no longer leaking.
The board’s approvals were procedural and budgeted to routine line items; no additional funding sources or contract amendments were specified on the record. The board scheduled its next regular session for 9:00 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2025.
