Labette County authorizes use of county equipment to mow Altamont lake and ponds under city-paid terms

At its April 7 meeting the Labette County Board of Commissioners authorized county Public Works to sidearm mow the Altamont City Lake and lagoon ponds and one-half mile of Meade Road once a month and after heavy rain. Altamont City Administrator LeAnn Myers and Altamont Superintendent Brad Myers presented the city’s request; Commissioners Terry Weidert and Tom Barrett moved and seconded the authorization, which passed unanimously.
Under the authorization, the City of Altamont will provide Public Works employees to operate county equipment, perform the work after normal working hours, and assume responsibility for fuel, equipment maintenance and workers’ compensation while using county equipment. The city will also purchase any materials used in the process, such as rock. The minutes record that the work is to be scheduled monthly and after heavy rains.
The authorization is recorded as an intergovernmental services arrangement: county personnel and equipment will be used but the city assumes operating costs and liability while equipment is in its use. Commissioners instructed Public Works to coordinate schedules with Altamont officials; the minutes do not record a timeline beyond the monthly/after-rain cadence.
