Hamilton City’s Planning Board on July 13 scheduled a special meeting for Monday, July 20 at 3:00 p.m. to hear two variance requests and agreed to allow virtual participation for applicants who cannot attend in person. Chair opened the session but said the board initially lacked a quorum and staff proposed holding a special meeting next week to avoid delaying applicants.
Tim Clark, who identified himself and provided addresses for himself and the job site, described why the applicant in one case needed an expedited hearing. “She’s got a pregnant daughter, pregnant daughter-in-law, 80 year old mom living with her, and she had an aneurysm last year,” Clark said, asking the board to consider scheduling sooner rather than tabling the matter to August.
Planning staff outlined the review timeline for rezoning requests and how the board’s recommendation feeds into the City Commission schedule. “August 10, you’d be here. August 11, you’d be at the City Commission for the 1st reading of your ordinance. August 25 would be the time they actually vote on yours,” staff said, describing the sequence applicants should expect.
An attendee who identified himself as Jeff Triggers gave his address and the subject property (222 Allen Avenue) and said he preferred not to delay. Staff confirmed a Zoom option exists and said the board could waive the in-person requirement for the July 20 session in this circumstance.
Staff confirmed the two items to be heard on July 20 in this room at 3:00 p.m. as case CPCPLN20261278 (Stephanie Marshall) and Item CPCPLN20261478 (the transcript also refers to this applicant as “Mr. Driggers” in one place). Staff said they will notify participants in advance if quorum issues require cancellation and will circulate a survey and meeting details. The board’s action was procedural scheduling; no final land-use decisions were made at the July 13 session.
Next steps: the planning board will hear the variances at the July 20 special meeting; the Marshall rezoning is expected to be on the planning board agenda Aug. 10 and on the City Commission agenda for first reading Aug. 11, with final action currently scheduled for Aug. 25.
