Colonial Beach council adopts 2026 legislative agenda, adds 'affordable housing' to economic development priorities

The Colonial Beach Town Council voted to adopt its 2026 legislative agenda Wednesday, condensing prior priorities down to a seven-item package and amending the economic development priority to explicitly mention "affordable housing."
Kyler (speaker 16), who led the drafting, told the council the original 13 priorities were pared to seven and that an infographic one-sheet will be used when meeting legislators. Kyler said the town will use its capital improvement plan to supply project-level details when seeking specific funding.
Council member Lisa proposed adding the phrase "affordable housing" to the economic development, small business and tourism priority to underscore workforce housing as an economic goal. "Affordable housing ultimately supports your workforce, and your workforce supports small business," the mayor summarized while introducing the amendment. The council approved the amendment and then voted to adopt the full agenda as amended.
Council members said the agenda will be used during meetings with legislators and that supporting documents, such as CIP listings and consent-order-related engineering reports, will be provided as needed.
The approved agenda will guide outreach to state legislators in the coming months and staff said it will distribute the one-sheet and supporting project materials when meetings are scheduled.
