Planners present Carteret County Comprehensive Transportation Plan; council to consider resolution in November

NCDOT and DERPO representatives told the Bogue council the county Comprehensive Transportation Plan is long-range (25–30 years) and that inclusion in the CTP is a prerequisite to seeking competitive state and regional funding; the mayor asked for a resolution for November adoption.
Representatives from the Carteret County Comprehensive Transportation Plan team briefed the Bogue Town Council on the plan’s scope and next steps at the Oct. 20 meeting.
Amanda Killian of the NCDOT-led team described the CTP as long-range planning — "twenty five to thirty years in the future" — developed with NCDOT, counties and the Down East Rural Planning Organization (DERPO). She said the plan is an early-stage document intended to identify potential projects; projects included in a CTP are positioned to seek state and regional funding in competitive processes.
DERPO representative Mickey Anderson explained that funding is distributed through a competitive, multi-layered process at state, regional and division levels. Councilmember Mike Crose asked whether funding is already allocated; Anderson replied that the CTP is a first step and that projects not included in this type of plan cannot seek that funding stream.
Killian said six CTP adoptions have occurred so far and that all supporting materials are available online. After the presentation Mayor Robert O’Chat asked Clerk Barbara Owens to draft a resolution for the council to consider at its November meeting to adopt the CTP.
The presentation was informational; the council did not take a formal vote at the Oct. 20 session.
