Carrie Walker was sworn in as president of the Massapequa Union Free School District Board of Education during the district's reorganization meeting, and a series of trustees and district officers took the oath of office.
Trustee Sherry O'Brien, Carrie Walker (president), Janine Caramore (vice president), and Daniela Kudo (secretary) each recited the statutory oath to "support the constitutions of the United States of America and the State of New York" and to "faithfully perform the duties" of their respective offices. The board also administered oaths to student representative Antonio Del Maestro (ex officio student member); to the superintendent; and to administrative officers sworn to serve the district in Nassau County.
Superintendent William Brennan gave an informational update after the reorganization business, reporting that auditorium audio-visual upgrades are underway and that summer programs are running at high enrollment: "We're doing significant upgrade from the audio, visual, end of things," he said, and later noted nearly 1,000 students enrolled in summer rec programs this week and hundreds more in camps such as robotics and Camp Invention.
The meeting also included routine but required administrative appointments and financial officer oaths. Jennifer Colias was sworn in as district treasurer and Ryan Ruff as deputy district treasurer; Sue Casarelli took the oath for deputy district clerk.
The board took these steps as part of the annual reorganization process; the reorganization agenda and required oaths preceded a short break and the district's regular public meeting.
