Chief Simpson listed maintenance and capital needs that include roof repairs, a sally port, an HVAC assessment, doors and awnings, storm shutters, sound-dampening measures, dumpster and generator screening, gutter improvements and a radio repeater. He said an additional full-time hire would reduce the town's reliance on part-time staff and overtime pay, and noted the department is the only one in the county not operating a four-person shift year-round; rather than request a permanent four-person shift, he requested one new full-time position to address staffing shortfalls and cost pressures.
Council did not record a formal vote on staffing or building repairs at the worksession; those items were discussed as part of the FY24-25 budget considerations and could be revisited at the April 19 special meeting.
