Hampton Falls cemetery trustees renew crypt keeper, clarify urn-burial rule and accept genealogy notebook

The Hampton Falls Cemetery Trustees met on Feb. 5, 2026, accepted the Jan. 8 minutes and took several routine actions including renewing a crypt-keeper contract and accepting a donated genealogy notebook.
Chair W. Harrington called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m.; trustees present included Secretary T. Healey Beattie, Trustee G. Johnson and Sexton R. Woodes. The trustees approved the January minutes before moving to new business.
Sexton R. Woodes reported that deep snow currently covers all town cemeteries and said that, if spring thaws the roads, he will close cemetery entrances to vehicular traffic to protect the grounds. The trustees did not record a separate vote on that possible action; it was described as a staff operational decision.
A family of Gertrude Eaton of Nason Road asked trustees for clarification on burying urns in an established burial lot. Trustees noted the bylaws' Burial Procedures require that "Top of Cremains containing urns be at least two feet below natural grade of the Burial Lot." The trustees treated that passage as the governing standard for urn burials.
Kelley Gautreau raised a question about a marker close to her gravesite in Oaklawn Cemetery. Chair Harrington clarified that the marker was an identification for a potential center road and that the center line in question lies several feet from the lot line cited by Gautreau.
On a formal motion, Secretary T. Healey Beattie moved and Trustee G. Johnson seconded renewal of the crypt-keeper contract for $120.00; the motion passed. The minutes do not record individual vote tallies.
The trustees accepted a donated notebook compiled and edited by the New Hampshire Society of Genealogy that lists identified burial-site names; the notebook will be filed at Town Hall.
The trustees set their next meeting for March 5, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. and adjourned at 4:40 p.m.
