Alma council accepts library solar grants, approves pay request and names new Clerk-Treasurer

The City of Alma Common Council on Nov. 20, 2025 approved administrative and grant actions related to the new library and personnel changes.
The council approved Pay Request #2 for the library project in the amount of $39,002.78. It also accepted a Solar Moonshot grant of $20,000 to assist with paying for solar panels for the new library and a grant award from the Couilliard Foundation covering 40 of the planned 80 solar panels. The council authorized Library Director Laura Petterson to apply for additional grants from Dairyland Power and BNSF Railroad for bird-safe windows.
In personnel action, the council approved the appointment of Deputy Clerk Sharaya Reed as Clerk-Treasurer beginning Jan. 5, 2026, at a starting wage of $29.00 per hour with a scheduled increase to $30.50 after a six-month probationary period beginning July 5, 2026, and an additional increase Jan. 6, 2027 pending a favorable performance evaluation. Reed addressed the council to thank members for their confidence and to thank outgoing Clerk Linda Torgerson for 43 years of service.
What happens next: procurement and grant administration for the library project will proceed; interviews for a Deputy Clerk were scheduled for Dec. 2, 2025.
