Mackinac County Board unanimously approves July bills and three budget amendments

Mackinac County commissioners voted unanimously to approve multiple sets of bills and three budget amendments during their July 24 meeting in St. Ignace.
Commissioner Austin Kimberling moved and Commissioner Daryl Schroeder seconded approval of the regular bills for July 24 in the amount of $165,180.01; a roll call vote recorded YES from Kimberling, Kling, Patrick, Schroeder and St. Louis-Scott. The board then approved additional bills totaling $190,568.10 and manual bills of $1,845.61 after motions by Commissioner Kimberling and seconds by Commissioner St. Louis-Scott; those votes were recorded as unanimous YES. The board approved budget amendments #2025-22, #2025-23 and #2025-24 following motions (mover: Kimberling; seconds: Schroeder or St. Louis-Scott as recorded); roll-call votes were unanimous YES.
The board approved minutes from the July 10 regular and special meetings with recorded unanimous roll-call approval. Treasurer Tina Massey presented quarterly reports and said she will provide a list of foreclosed properties for the board to review at the next meeting as part of the board's first right of refusal. Massey said the BS&A vendor has proposed moving financial data storage to the cloud over the next couple of years and gave an update on the Wayside tax lawsuit.
During staff reports Sheriff Ed Wilk said a new video visitation system was installed in the jail this week and is functioning as expected; he added the law library will be available through the new system so a separate renewal is not required. Treasurer Tina Massey told the board a loan application for the courtroom remodel has been signed and submitted to the bank.
Public commenter Dick Pershinske requested a complete accounting of legal fees related to the Veterans Office for the past two years; Chair Mike Patrick directed him to submit a FOIA request to the county clerk's office for that information.
The board adjourned at 5:43 p.m.
