Labette County commissioners authorize signatures on 2024 noxious weed report and approve payroll and bills

Chairman Vincent B. Schibi called the Labette County Board of Commissioners to order at 9:00 a.m. on Feb. 28, 2025, in the Commission Room. Commissioners Tom Barrett and Terry Weidert were present; County Counselor Brian K. Johnson and Deputy County Clerk Lorrie Boulware also attended.
Noxious Weed Supervisor Ralph George presented the Annual Noxious Weed Eradication Progress Report for 2024 and asked the board to authorize commission signatures on the document. Commissioner Terry Weidert moved to authorize the signatures; Commissioner Tom Barrett seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously: Tom Barrett (Yes), Terry Weidert (Yes), Vincent B. Schibi (Yes).
The board approved routine business items. Commissioner Weidert moved to approve the minutes of Feb. 24, 2025; Barrett seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Chairman Schibi later moved to approve payroll check numbers 18082D1809 ($4,773.76) and Direct Deposit numbers 8262452D826368 ($371,492.84), for a total payroll of $376,266.60; Commissioner Weidert seconded and the motion passed 32D0. The board approved Accounts Payable check numbers 368572D36858 (total $6,550.28) and separately approved Accounts Payable check numbers 368162D36856 (total $371,384.91); both motions passed unanimously.
The commissioners held two executive sessions during the meeting for consultation with the county attorney on matters described as protected by attorney-client privilege. The first motion to enter executive session was made by Commissioner Weidert and carried with a plan to reconvene at 9:21 a.m.; County Counselor Brian K. Johnson and Sheriff Darren Eichinger were present for part of that session. A second executive session was later entered after a separate motion by Weidert and second by Schibi; Johnson was present for a 20-minute consultation scheduled to reconvene at 10:20 a.m. The minutes do not specify the subjects discussed in executive session.
The board briefly discussed timing for beginning preparation of the 2026 county budget but did not adopt a schedule or take formal action on budget deadlines. With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 10:26 a.m.; the board scheduled the next regular meeting for 9:00 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2025.
