The Tangipahoa Parish School Board received academic updates July 21 showing gains in early‑childhood and K–3 benchmark results.
Miss Bridal presented assessment results for birth‑to‑5 programs: the district now supports 46 early learning centers (up from 12), seven Head Start sites and three family child‑care providers. She reported 79% of pre‑K students met end‑of‑year ELA proficiency (one point shy of the 80% target) and 86% met the district's math proficiency goal. She emphasized small‑group interventions and coaching for children who need additional support.
"Every year, 80% of our pre k children are proficient or better. ... We are so excited about that," Miss Bridal said, noting math exceeded the target and ELA was very close.
Doctor Fussell presented K–3 results and benchmark work: the district recorded 17.7 percentage points of growth in K–3 DIBELS overall, with kindergarten growth of 42% in the measured window. She also said district proficiency growth outpaced statewide averages at several schools and that the number of 3rd‑grade retentions decreased by about 34%. Dr. Fussell credited district data capacity and interventions (Zearn for math, Lexia for ELA) and an academic data analyst for enabling timely responses.
The board congratulated administrators and asked for presentation materials to be distributed to members and the public. Administrators said parents can view individual LEAP results in the parent portal and that the district will continue to focus on ELA growth while sustaining math gains.
