Council backs one-year extension for solid-waste contract while conducting a review

Councilors cited neighboring localities that had recently changed contractors for cost savings and asked staff to analyze whether a short-term extension or competitive procurement would be in the town's financial interest.
Council also discussed the prospect of a single-point recycling center and whether eliminating curbside recycling could lower costs; staff noted those options require operational planning and public outreach. Council members supported the recommendation to extend one year while staff prepares a detailed analysis, including updated commercial fee schedules and enforcement options for delinquent commercial accounts.
