"We are the recruiting arm of the teaching profession," Carmen Diaz, Teach Maryland's regional partnerships manager, told the board, describing digital ads, coaching, program explorer tools and study resources designed to move interested people into educator preparation programs.
Diaz said the platform launched in May 2026 and already had nearly 1,700 registered applicants in its Maryland portal. She described three stages of the model — identify, cultivate and support — and emphasized that coaches are EPP‑agnostic: they provide neutral guidance and refer licensure‑specific questions to MSDE. The service includes coaching calls, satisfaction surveys and an expectation that coaches present candidates with at least three EPP options when feasible.
Teach Maryland will report data back to MSDE and to participating EPPs and LEAs; Diaz said the platform can increase diversity among applicants and reduce drop‑off between interest and application. She offered customized toolkits and one‑on‑one support for EPPs and LEAs to integrate the portal into local recruitment.
What comes next: EPPs are completing profile information and Teach Maryland staff will produce study guides and checklists to support candidates; Diaz encouraged MSDE staff and board members to visit the portal and share materials with local partners.
